For resistance management, THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS contains a Group
4A/thiamethoxam insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally

resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of insecticides are

should be followed.

used repeatedly in the same fields. Appropriate resistance-management strategies
should be followed.
In order to maintain susceptibility to this class of chemistry:
x Use products at their full, specified doses.
x Use appropriate, well-maintained equipment. Use specified water volumes and apply
at optimal temperatures in order to obtain optimal treatment.
x When rate ranges are given, use the higher rate within the listed rate range when
insect pressure is expected to be high.
x Avoid using a single active ingredient or mode of action (same insecticide group)
exclusively for season long control of insect species with more than one generation
per crop season.
x For insect species with successive or overlapping generations, use a treatment
window approach. A treatment window is a period of time defined by the stage of
crop development and the biology of the pests of concern. Within the treatment
window, depending on the length of residual activity, single or consecutive
applications may be made using seed, in-furrow, or foliar treatments unless
otherwise excluded by product labels. Do not exceed the maximum amount of this
insecticide’s mode of action allowed per growing season.
x Following a treatment window of this insecticide’s mode of action, rotate to a
treatment window of effective products with a different mode of action before making
additional applications of this insecticide.
Thiamethoxam is a systemic insecticide belonging to the neonicotinoid class of chemistry
which includes nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonists.
Other Insect Resistance Management (IRM) practices include:
ƒ Incorporating IPM techniques into your insect control program.
ƒ Monitoring treated insect populations for loss of field efficacy.
ƒ Using tank-mixtures or premixes with insecticides from a different target site of
action group as long as the involved products are all registered for the same crop
outlet and effective rates are applied.

Syngenta encourages responsible product stewardship to ensure effective long term
To delay insecticide resistance, take the following steps:
x Rotate the use of THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS or other Group 4A insecticides
within a growing season, or among growing seasons, with different groups that
control the same pests.
x Use tank mixtures with insecticides from a different group that are equally
effective on the target pest when such use is permitted. Do not rely on the same
mixture repeatedly for the same pest population. Consider any known cross-
resistance issues (for the targeted pests) between the individual components of a
mixture. In addition, consider the following recommendations provided by the
Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC):
o Individual insecticides selected for use in mixtures should be highly
effective and be applied at the rates at which they are individually
registered for use against the target species.
o Mixtures with components having the same IRAC mode of action
classification are not recommended for insect resistance management.
o When using mixtures, consider any known cross-resistance issues
between the individual components for the targeted pest(s).
o Mixtures become less effective if resistance is already developing to one
or both active ingredients, but they may still provide pest management
benefits.
o The insect resistance management benefits of an insecticide mixture are
greatest if the two components have similar periods of residual insecticidal
activity. Mixtures of insecticides with unequal periods of residual
insecticide activity may offer an insect resistance management benefit
only for the period where both insecticides are active.
x Adopt an integrated pest management program for insecticide/acaricides use
that includes scouting, uses historical information related to pesticide use, crop
rotation, record keeping, and which considers cultural, biological and other
chemical control practices.
x Monitor after application for unexpected target pest survival. If the level of
survival suggests the presence of resistance, consult with your local university
specialist or certified pest control advisor.
x Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any
additional pesticide resistance-management and/or IPM recommendations for
the specific site and pest problems in your area.
x For further information or to report suspected resistance contact Syngenta at 1-

The Federal Seed Act requires that bags containing treated seed shall be labeled with
the following statements:

mefenoxam, sedaxane, and thiabendazole fungicides.
x DO NOT use for food, feed, or oil purposes.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires that bags containing treated seed
shall be labeled with the following statements. Any seed treated with
THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS that is sold or distributed without these statements or that
is sold or distributed for a use not permitted by the following labeling does not qualify as
an exempted treated article under 40 CFR 152.25(a) and is therefore sale or distribution
of an unregistered pesticide, pursuant to FIFRA section 12(a)(1)(A).

THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS treated seed was planted. A cover crop other than
the crops listed above that is planted for erosion control or soil improvement may
be planted sooner than the 120 day interval; however, the crop may not be

all thiamethoxam products and application methods (for example, seed
treatment, in-furrow, and foliar).

x Wear long-sleeved shirt, long pants and chemical-resistant gloves when handling
treated seed.
x DO NOT plant treated seed by broadcasting to the soil surface. Ensure that all
planted seeds are thoroughly incorporated by the planter during planting.
Additional incorporation may be required to thoroughly cover exposed seeds.
x Treated seed exposed on soil surface may be hazardous to wildlife. Cover or
collect treated seed spilled during loading and planting (such as in row ends).
x Treated seed must be planted into the soil at a depth greater than 1 inch.
x Manage excess treated seed (e.g., spilled, unused, or expired treated seed) by
one or more of the following methods:
o Collect excess treated seed for reuse for planting.
o Bury excess treated seed (only allowed if totaling 1 pound or less) at least 30
feet away from bodies of water at a depth of 6 inches or double the planting
depth, whichever is greater.
o Dispose of excess treated seed by placing them in a landfill in accordance
with applicable laws in your state.
o Return excess treated seed to the supplier if permitted by the state.
x DO NOT contaminate water bodies when disposing of planting equipment wash
waters.
x Dispose of seed packaging in accordance with local requirements.
x DO NOT graze or feed livestock on treated areas for 45 days after planting seed
treated with THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS.
x In the event of a crop failure or harvest of a crop grown from
THX/MXM/FLD/TBZ/SDX FS treated seed, the field may be replanted according
to the following schedule.

x Non-Target Organism Advisory Statement:
This product may adversely impact non-target organisms feeding on treated
seed. Protect the non-target organisms by following label directions intended to
minimize availability of treated seed to non-target organisms.
x Groundwater Advisory: Mefenoxam is known to leach through soil into
groundwater under certain conditions as a result of agricultural use.
Thiamethoxam has properties and characteristics associated with chemicals
detected in groundwater. These chemicals may leach into the groundwater if
used in areas where soils are permeable, particularly where the water table is
shallow.
x Pollinator Precautions: Thiamethoxam is highly toxic to bees, and effects are
possible as a result of exposure to translocated residues in blooming crops.
x Advisory Dust-Reducing Technique: The use of seed flow lubricants or
polymer coatings may help decrease the amount of dust released during
planting. Follow the recommendations of the planter manufacturer regarding the
use of seed flow lubricants.
