GENERAL USE PRECAUTIONS • Touchdown 008 requires actively growing green plant tissue to function. Application to drought-stressed weeds or weeds with little green foliage (i.e. mowed, cut, or hailed on weeds); weeds covered with dust; weeds damaged by insects or diseases may result in reduced weed control. • Touchdown 008 does not provide soil residual control of weeds. Weeds emerging after application will require retreatment. -8- • Heavy rainfall or irrigation shortly after application may require retreatmC'll~ • Tillage or mowing within 3 days following application may reduce weed cOlltrol. • Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system. • Do not spray if conditions of thermal inversion exist, or if wind direction alIC: speed may cause spray to drift onto adjacent nontarget areas. Drift miniIT,;zation is the responsibility of the applicator. Some naturally occurring weed biotypes resistant to glyphosate or ci::amba may exist through normal genetic variability in any weed population. The repeiltc,ci use of herbicides with the same mode of action is known to lead under certain conc!:Uns to a selection of resistant weeds. Certain agronomic practices reduce the Iikelil1CJcci :nat resistant weed populations will develop and integrated strategies are known tn II.IlIage such problem weeds. Glyphosate and dicamba are the active ingredients in the herbicide Touchdown OJ8. The primary mode of action of glyphosate involves inactivation of the target enzj:118 5- enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS). This enzyme is involved i~ the synthesis of several essential amino acids, that are the building blocks for protelllS needed for plant growth and development. In susceptible weeds glyph os ate bill!" tightly to EPSPS rendering the enzyme ilHlctive. With the inactivation of EPSP~' ,'le plant is unable to produce certain essential amino acids resulting in plant death. VI'lthin the USA specific biotypes of horseweed/marestail, Conyza canadensis and r:uic' ryegrass, Lolium rigidum have become resistant to glyphosate. The primary mode of action of dicamba involves deactivation of auxin-bindinQ p"'i,"ins in the cytosol or plasma membrane, disrupting endogenous auxin function. -;'/,1:, causes deregulation of RNA and protein synthesis progressing to plant death. \','1' Ilin the USA a specific biotype of kochia, Kochia scoparia, has become resistant to dicamba. Following is a list of Best Weed Management practices to be considered in glypl';ate­ based programs. • Rotate glyphosate with herbicides with different modes of action. • Rotate glyphosate tolerant Roundup Ready® (RRTM) crops with conventioIIC'''-0Ps to reduce resistant volunteers. • Use alternative burndown and/or residual herbicide chemistry for RR crops Ii to require more than one application of glyphosate. • Do not use more than two applications of a glyphosate based herbicide over . !'-vo year period in RR corn and RR soybeans production. Engineering Control Statements When handlers use closed systems, enclosed cabs, or aircraft in a manner that meets the requirements listed in the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) for agricultural pesticides [40 CFR 170.240(d) (4-6)], the handler PPE requirements may be reduced or modified as specified in the WPS. User Safety Recommendations Users should: • Wash hands before eating. drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet. • Remove clothing immediately if pesticide gets inside. Then wash thoroughly and put on clean clothing • Remove PPE immediately after handling this product. Wash the outside of gloves before removing. As soon as possible, wash thoroughly and change into clean clothinq. Environmental Hazards Do not apply directly to water or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not contaminate water when cleaning equipment or disposing of equipment wash waters. Physical and Chemical Hazards Do not store, mix or apply this product or spray solutions of this product in unlined steel (except stainless steel), galvanized steel containers, or sprayer tanks. This product or spray solutions of this product will react with these containers and tanks and produce hydrogen gas which may form a highly combustible mixture. This gas mixture could flash or explode, causing serious personal injury, if ignited by spark, open flame, lighted cigarette, welder torch, or other ignition source.
