Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Avoid breathing spray mist. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) Mixers, loaders, applicators and other handlers must wear l ong-sleeved shirts, long pant s, shoes and socks, and chemical-resistant gloves made of the following waterproof material: nitrile rubber ≥ 14 mils, neoprene rubber ≥14 mils, barrier laminate, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ≥14 mils, or viton ≥14 mils. User Safety Requirements Follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning/ maintaining PPE. If no such instructions for washables exist, use detergent and hot water. Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry. User Safety Recommendations Users should wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet. Users should remove clothing/PPE immediately if pesticide gets inside. Then wash thoroughly and put on clean clothing. Users should remove PPE immediately after handling this product. Wash the outside of gloves before removing. As soon as possible, wash thoroughly and change into clean clothing. Engineering Controls When handlers use closed systems, enclosed cabs or aircraft in a manner that meet the requirements listed in the Worker Protection Standards (WPS) for agricultural pesticides [40 CFR 170.240(d) (4- 6)], the handler PPE requirements may be reduced or modified as specified in the WPS. Water-soluble packets when used correctly qualify as a closed mixing/loadi ng system under the Worker Protection Standard for Agricultural Pesticides [40 CFR 170.240(d)(4)]. Mixers and loaders using water - soluble packets must: • Wear the personal protective equipment required in the PPE section of this labeling for mixers and loaders. ENGINEERING CONTROLS STATEMENT Water soluble packets, when used correctly, qualify as a closed mixing/loading system under the Worker Protection Standard [40 CFR 170.607(d)]. Mixers and loaders handling this product while it is enclosed in intact water -soluble packets may elect to wear reduced PPE of long-sleeved shirt, long pants, shoes, socks, a chemical-resistant apron, and chem ical-resistant gloves. When reduced PPE is worn because a closed system is being used, handlers must be provided all PPE specified above for “applicators and other handlers” and have such PPE immediately available for use in an emergency, such as a spill or equipment break-down.” Pilots must use an enclosed cockpit that meets the requirements listed in the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) for agricultural pesticides [40 CFR 170.240(d)(6)]. FIRST AID If in eyes : Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water fo r 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye. If person is not breathing, call 9 11 or an am bulance, then give artificial respiration, preferably mouth -to-mouth if possible. Call a poison control center or doctor for further treatment advice. If on skin or clothing: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately w ith plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. If swallowed: Call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. Have person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induc e vomiting unless told to do so by a poison control center or doctor. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Have the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment. For addit ional infor mation on t his pesticide product (including health concerns, medical emergencies or pesticide incidents), you may call 1- 800-992-5994, twenty -four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS This product is toxic to aquati c invertebrates. Drift and runoff may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in neighboring areas. Under some conditions, this chemical may also have a high potential for runoff i nto surface water for several weeks or months after applic ation. Do not cultivate within 10 feet of aquatic areas so as to allow growth of a vegetative filter strip. Drift from applications of this pesticide is likely to result in damage to sensitive aqu atic invertebrates in water bodies adjacent to treatment ar ea. For terrestrial uses, do not apply direc tly to water or to areas where surface water is present or to inter -tidal areas below the mean highwater mark, except under forest canopy when aerially applied to control forest pests. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment was h-waters and r insate. Do not apply when weather conditions favor drift or runoff from areas treated. Ground Water Advisory: Confirm 2F has properties and charac teristics associated with chemicals detected in ground wat er. This chemical may leach into ground water if used in areas where soils are permeable, particularly where the water table is shallow. DIRECTIONS FOR USE It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Read all Directions for Use carefully before applying. Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift. Only protected handlers may be in the area during application. F or any requirements specific to your state or tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation. AGRICULTURAL USE REQUIREMENTS Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Prot ection Standard, 40 CFR Part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries, and greenhouses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training, decontamination, notification, and emergency assista nce. It also contains specific instruc tions a nd exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal protective equipment (PPE) and Confirm 70 WSP, EPA Reg. The requirements in this box only apply t o uses of this product that are covered by the Worker Protection Standard. Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 4 hours. PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and that involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil or water, is: • Coveralls over long-sleeved shirts and long pants; • Chemical-resistant gloves made of nitrile rubber ≥14 mils, neoprene rubber ≥14 mils, barrier laminate, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ≥ 14 mils, or viton ≥ 14 mils; and • Socks and chemical-resistant footwear STORAGE AND DISPOSAL Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage or disposal. PESTICIDE STORAGE: Store this product in its origi nal container in a cool (temperature no less than 32°F), dry, well- ventilated area that is inacc essible (preferably locked) to children and pets . Do not store in a manner where cross-contamination with other pesticides, fertilizers, food or feed could occur. If spilled during storage or handling, sweep up spillage and dispose of in accordance with the Pesticide Disposal Instructions listed below. PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: Pesticide wastes are toxic. Improper disposal of excess pesticide, spray mixture, or rinsate is a violation of Federal Law. If these was tes cannot be used according to label instructions, contact your State Pesticide or Environmental Control Agency, or the Hazardous Waste representative at the nearest EPA Regional Office for guidance. CONTAINER HANDLING: N onrefillable container. Do not r euse or refill this container. Offer for recycling, if available or dispose of the empty outer foil pouch in the trash as long as the WSP is unbroken. Product Information Confirm 70 WSP Insecticide mimics the action of the natural insect hor mone 20-hydroxyecdysone, the physiological inducer of the molting and metamorphosis process in insects. Confirm 70 WSP is highly active against most lepidopterous la rvae while having prac tically no activity at typical use -rates against other orders of insects. Confirm 70 WSP controls lepidopterous larvae through a novel mode-of-action by the induction of a premature lethal molt which initiates within hours of ingesti on of treated crop sur faces. Contact activity has also been observed in some insects. Actual death of the larvae will take several days to occur although feeding by the insects generally ceases within 24 hours of ingestion. The safety of Confirm 70 WSP has not been determined on all plants and crops. Before treating large numbers of plants, test Confir m 70 WSP, or tank mixes with Confirm 70 WSP and other pesticides or fertilizers, at labeled rates on a small section of plants and observe for symptoms of sensitivity prior to treating an entire crop. Use Rate Determination Carefully read, und erstand and follow label use rates, recommendations and restrictions. Apply the amount specified in the crop specific tables listed in this label with properly calibrated aerial or ground spray equipment. The low rates may be used for light infestations of the target lepidopterous species and the higher rates for moderate to heavy infestations. Confirm 70 WSP may be applied in either dilute or concentrate sprays so long as the applicatio n equipment is calibrated and adjusted to deliver thorough, uniform coverage. U se the specified amount of Confirm 70 WSP per acre regardless of spray volume used. Prepare only the amount of spray solution required to treat the measured acreage. Compatibility Confirm 70 WSP is believed to be compatible with most commonly -used agricultural fungicides, insecticides, growth regulators, foliar fertilizers and spray adjuvants. If in doubt, the user should consult spray compatibility char ts or State Cooperativ e Extension Specialists prior to preparing tank mixtures . It Confirm 70 WSP, EPA Reg. Read and follow the applicable restrictions and limitations and directions for use on all product labels involved in tank mixing. Users must follow the most restrictive directions for use and precautionary statements of each product in the tank mixture. Instructions for Using Water Soluble Packages Directly into Spray tanks: Water Soluble Packages (WSPs) are designed to dissolve in water. Agitation may be used, if necessary, to help dissolve the WSP. Failure to follow handling and mixing instructions can increase your exposure to the pesticide products in WSPs. WSPs, when used properly, qualify as a closed mixing/loading system under the Agricultural Worker Protection Standard [40 CFR 170.607(d)]. Handling Instructions Follow these steps when handling pesticide products in WSPs. 1. Mix in spray tank only. 2. Handle WSP(s) in a manner that prot ects package from breakage and/or unintended release of contents. If package is broken, put on PPE requi red for clean-up and then continue with mixing instructions. 3. Keep the WSP(s) in outer packaging until just before use. 4. Keep the WSP dry prior to adding to the spray tank. 5. Handle with dry gloves and according to the label instructions for PPE. 6. Keep WSP intact. Do not cut or puncture WSP. 7. Reseal the WSP outer packaging to protect any unused WSP(s). Mixing Fill spray t ank one-third to one-half full of clean water before adding water -soluble pouches to the spray tank. Place the Confirm 70 WSP pouches in the spray tank and insure that the pouches are completely dissolved before adding other co- applied products. Add the required number of pouc hes as determined by the dosage recommendations into the tank with continuous agitation. Depending on the wat er temperature and the degree of agitation, the pouches should completely dissolve within approximately five minutes. It is the pesticide user’s responsibility to ensure that all products are registered for the intended use. Read and follow the applicable restrictions and limitations and directions for use on all product labels involved in tank mixing. Users must follow the most restrictive directions for use and precautionary statements of each product in the tank mixture. Note: Confirm 70 WSP Insect icide is compatible with boron and spray oils; however, the water -soluble pouches must be completely dissolved before adding spray oils or products containing boron to spray mixtures. Handling The enclosed pouches of Confi rm 70 WSP are water soluble. Do not allow pouches to become wet prior to adding to the spray tank. Do not handle the pouches with wet hands or wet gloves. Always reseal over wrap bag to protect remaining unused pouches. Do not remove water -soluble pouches from ov er wrap except to add directly to the spray tank. Application Timing The activity of Confirm 70 WSP is expressed primarily through i ngestion by the target larvae. Consequently, the timing of application is dependent up on the feeding behavior of the target pest. For internal feeding larvae, application must be made prior to the time that surface feeding occurs. For foliar or surface feeding larvae, application made while active feeding is occurring will be effective. Re-application may be requi red to pr otect new flushes of fol iage or rapidly expanding fruit. The re- application interval will vary depending up on how rapidly the crop is growing and the generation time of Confirm 70 WSP, EPA Reg. While Confirm 70 WSP is essentially equally effective against all in stars, it is generally good practice to make applications to early instars to avoid the heavy damage that can be inflicted by later instar larvae. For best results, begin applications when first signs of feeding damage or when threshold levels of moths, eggs or larvae occur. Consult the Cooperative Extension Service, or other qualified professional authorities to determine the appropriate threshold for application in your area. Application Instructions Because Confirm 70 WSP must be ingested by the larvae, application must be in a manner that assures uniform and thorough coverage. Higher water volume and increased spray pressure generally provide better coverage. Operating an air-blast sprayer at ground speeds greater than 2 mph and making applications in an alternate row middle pattern in tree crops may result in less than satisfactory coverage and poor performance, particularly in conditions of high pest infestation levels, extremely large trees and/or dense foliage. Avoid application under conditions when uniform coverage cannot be assured or when excessive spray drift may occur. A minimum of six hours drying time is required between completion of application and the onset of precipitation to ensure retention of the spray deposit. Use Restrictions for Chemigation Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system except as specified for use on cranberries. Spray Adjuvants The addition of agricultural adjuvants to Confirm 70 WSP sprays will improve initial spray deposits, redistribution and weatherability. Place Confirm 70 WSP into suspension prior to adding an adjuvant to the spray mixture. Read and carefully observe the precautionary statements and all other information appearing on all product labels prior to spray preparation. Pesticide Resistance Management For resistance management, Confirm 70 WSP contains a Group 18 insecticide. Any i nsect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to Confirm 70 WSP and other Group 18 insecticides. The resistant individuals may dominate the insect population if this group of i nsecticides are used repeatedly in the same fields. Appropriate resistance-management strategies should be followed. To delay insecticide/acaricide resistance, take the following steps: • Rotate the use of Confirm 70 WSP or other Group 18 insecticides within a growin g season, or among growing seasons, with different groups that control the same pests. • Use tank mixtures with insecticides from a different group that are equally effective on the target pest when such use is permitted. Do not rely on the same m ixture repeatedly for the same pest population. Consider any known cross -resistance issues ( for the targeted pests) between the individual components of a mixture. In addition, consider the following recommendations provided by the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC): o Individual insecticides selected for use in mixtures should be highly effective and be applied at the rates at which they are individually registered for use against the target species. o Mixtures with component s having the same IRA C mode of action classification are not recommended for insect resistance management. o When using mixtures, consider any known cross-resistance issues between the individual components for the targeted pest(s). o Mixtures become less effective if res istance is already d eveloping to one or both active ingredients, but they may still provide pest management benefits. Mi xtures of insecticides with unequal periods of residual insecticide act ivity may offer an insect resistance management benefit only for the period where both insecticides are active. • Adopt an integrated pest management program for insecticides use that in cludes scouting, uses historical information related to pesticide use, crop rotation, record keeping, and which considers cultural, biological and other chemical control practices. • Monitor after application for unexpecte d target pest surviva l. If the level of surviva l suggests the presence of resistance, consult with your local university specialist or certified pest control advisor. • Contact your local extension specialist or certified crop advisors for any additional pe sticide resistance-management and/or IPM r ecommendations for the specific site and pest problems in your area. • For further information or to report suspected resistance contact Nisso America Inc. at (212) 490- 0350.
