Atrazine 4L Herbicide controls many annual broadleaf and grass weeds in corn
and sorghum including barnyardgrass, witchgrass, (Panicum capillare), yello~
foxtail, green foxtail, wild oats, large (hairy) crabgrass, giant foxtail,
velvetleaf, morningglory, lambsquarters, pigweed, ragweed, nightshade,
purslane, and mustard. Atrazine 4L may be applied before or after weeds
emerge.
Apply at the rates given under each crop before or after weeds emerge. Use
lower rates on light soils and low organic matter soils. Use higher rates on
heavy soils and high organic matter soils.
Atrazine 4L acts mainly th.ough root absorption so rainfall or irrigation is
needed to mve it into the root zone. Should weeds develop, a shallow
cultivation or rotary hoeing will generally result in better weed control.
Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system.
Postemergence application to corn and sorghum must be made before corn and
sorghum reaches 12 inches in height.
The maximum application rate for corn and sorghum is 3 Ibs. a.i. per acre
per calander year. Applications for quackgrass suppression in corn and
sorghum are restricted to a spring appliation only. No fall applications
are permitted.
Application rates to non crop land for industrial weed control cannot exceed
a maximum of 10 Ibs. active ingredient per acre per calendar year.
Avoid using Atrazine 4L near adjacent desirable trees, shrubs, or plants or
injury may occur.
Atrazine 4L is non-flammable.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
This product may not be mixed/loaded, or used within 50 feet of all wells
included aDandoned wells, drainage well, and sink holes.
General: Atrazine 4L, a liquid formulation, should be mixed with water or
liquid fertilizer and applied as a spray. Pour into the tank during or after
filling. Hydraulic (jet) or mechanical agitation is recommended during
mixing and application to keep the material in susp£nsion. All return lines
to the tank must discharge below liquid level and agitation should not be so
violent as to cause air bubbles to form in the liquid. Wash sprayer
thoroughly after use.
Ground Application: Apply Atrazine 4L i~ 5-40 gallons of water pe~ arc to
assure even coverage unless otherwise specified. Fer uniform distributin,
use 80 degree flat fan-type nozzles. Screens in nozzles, as well as hoe ir
suction and in-line strainers, should be no finer than 50-mesh. Use a
minimum of 10 gal. of water per acre for all postemergence applical':'v;lJ
combined with oil or surfactant.

Use a suitable pump with capacity to deliver (1) the necessary volume to the no%zles at 35-40 p.s.i. and (2) an additional volume to maintain the mixture in suspension in the spray tank. Aerial Application: Use only where broadcast applications are specified. Apply a minimum of 1 gallon of water for each 2 pints of Atrazine 4L to be applied per acre. For postemergence treatments, apply recommended rate in a minimum of 2 gal. water per acre. DO not apply where unifortt. coverage cannot be obtained or where excessive spray drift may occur. Avoid application directly to animals or humans. Flagmen or loaders should avoid inhalation of spray mist or contact with skin and should wash thoroughly before eating and at the end of each day's operation. Application in Liquid rertil.iw:er: Nitrogen solutions or cOmr" 'O'-.e liquid fertilizers may replace all or part of the water as a ca.'_-,-e.:- for preemergence and preplant applications. Mix as described under Application Procedures. Do not apply after corn or sorghum emerges as there is danger of liquid fertilizers causing crop injury. Check to ensure the compatibility of Atrazine 4L with liquid fertilizer prior to mixing in the spray tank. A convenient method for testing the compatibility of Atrazine 4L with liquid fertilizer follows: A. Add one pint of liquid fertilizer or other carrier to be used to two quart jars. Mark one quart jar ·with" and the other jar "without." B. To the jar marked "with" add 1/4 teaspoon of a suitable compatibility agent, Shake gently for 5 to 10 seconds to mix. (1/4 teaspoon/pint ~ 2 pints/lOO gallons.) C. To each jar mix the number of teaspoons of herbicide shown on the following chart times the number of qts .• .>er acre of Atrazine 4L to be applied corresponding to the gallons per acre of liquid fertilizer to be used. (For example, if 4 qts. per acre of Atrazine 4L are to be applied in 20 gallons of liquid fertilizer per acre, then 4 X 1-1/4 teaspoons, or 5 teaspoons should be mixed with one pint of liquid fertilizer.) If more than one herbicide is used, add them separately; wettable powders first, flowables second and emulsifiable concentrates last. Shake gently for 5 to 10 seconds after each addition. D. Let stand one-half hour and make obsetvations. If any separation, agglomeration or orecipitation has occu.red, again shake the jar 10 to 15 seconds.
- If mixtures appear to be compatible in both jars, the herbicide(s) can probably be used without a compatibility a~ent.
- If the mixture in the jar marked ·with" is compatible, but the one in the jar marked "without" is incompatible, a compatibility agent should be used.
- If both mixtures are incompatible, the liquid ferlil.izer and the herbicide(s) should not be used in the same spray tank. If a test such as outlined indicates that components of a proposed mix are compatible, materials to be combined in the spray tank should still be added in the sequence according to directions prescribed on the label of the herbicides or pesticides involved. The addition of oil to Atrazine 4L in water sprays may speed the activity of
Atrazine 4L and provide quicker kill of weeds. However, under certain
conditions, the use of oil may seriousy damage Corn or sorgh~. To minimize
the possibility of damage, follow the directions, procedures _nd precautiors
given below.
Use a crop oil containing at least 1\ suitable emulsifier or a crop oil
concentrate containing not more than 20\ emulsifier or surfactant blend
designated for use with Atrazine. Emulsifiable oil or oil concentrate
contaminated with water or other materials can cause compatibility problems
and/or crop injury.
Mixing Procedures--all uses:
(1) Thoroughly clean sprayer prior to use. Do not use sprayer contaminated
with 2,4-0 or other materials as crop damage or sprayer clogging may
result.
(2) Fill spray tank with water, allowing for the addition of the
Atra:zine 4L.
(3) With the agitation system in operation, add the Jtrazine 4L.
(4) Add the emulsifiable oil or oil concentrate last.
(5) Empty the tank as completely as possible before refilling to prevent a
buildup of oil in the tank. Keep the agitation syste~ in operation to
avoid a separation of the oil from the water in the spray mixture still
remaining in the tank.
(6) If an oil film starts to build up in the tank, drain the tank and clean
out with a strong detergent solution or solvent.
(7) Clean the sprayer thoroughly immediat~::'y after use by flushing tr.e
system with water containing a detergent.
(8) All return lines to the tank must discharge below liquid level.

(5) Do not make more than one application per season except as recommended for control of yellow nutsedge and Canada thistle on this label. CORN Atrazine 4L may be applied either before planting, at planting or after planting at the rate indicated below. Preplant Broadcast in the spring after plowing at the rate indicated in Table 1. Apply before, during or after final seedbed preparation. If soil is tilled or worked after application, avoid deep incorporation of Atrazine 4L. Atrazine 4L will suppress yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) and Canada
thistle (Cirsium arvense) when applied according to directions. For best
results, apply each year until yellow nutsedge or Canada thistle is
eliminated or reaches a level of infestation where neither weed is a
problem. If yellow nutsedge Or Canada thistle regrow following last
application, cultivate once. When Atrazine 4L is applied postemergence to
the weeds, add 1 gal. of emulsifiable crop oil or 1 qt. of oil concentrate
per acre.
Six alternative methods of use for control of yellow nutsedge and Canada
thistle are listed below in order of preference. If other weed species, such
as annual grasses, are also expected, use alternative 2, 3, S, or 6.
- Broadcast 3 pt. plus 1 gal. of emulsifiable oil or 1 qt. of oil concentrate per acre after crop and yellow nutsedge or Canada thistle emerge, but before yellow nutsedge reaches a height of 3 inches or Canada thistle reaches a height of 6 inches. Apply in a minimum of 20 gal. per acre. Non-pressure fluid fertilizer may
replace all or part of the water uaed as a carrier for application~ before

Grasp neck of bag firmly, shake vigorously, and add contents to spray tank.

PARAQUAT
For control of ezisting vegetation and residual control where corn will be
planted directly into cover crop, established sod, or in previous crop
residues, broadcast 4-D pt. of Atrazine 4L and 1-2 pts.fA (2 lbs.fgal.) or
1.3-2.7 pts.fA (1.5 Ibs.fgal.) paraquat in 20-60 gal. of water per acre. Add
Atrazine 4L to water in spray tank, agitate until thoroughly mixed with
water, and then add paraquat and surfactant.

Use as a tank mixture with "Princep" 80W and paraquat for kill of existing
vegetation and residual weed control where corn will be planeed directly
into a cover crop, esablished sod, or in previous crop residues. Add
Atrazin'!! 4L and "Prilacep" !lOW to water in spray tank, agitating until
thoroughly mixed. Then add paraquat and a nonionic surfactant such as
"Ortho" X-77. Continue agitation during application. Apply 2-4 pt. of
Atrazine 4L plus 1.25-2.5 l. uf "Princep" 80W plus 1-2 pts.fA (2 lbs.fgal.)
Or 1.3-2.7 pts.fA (1.5 lbs.fgal.) paraquat in 20-60 gal. of water per
sprayed acre within 3 weeks before, during, or after planing, but before
corn crop emerges. Add 8 fl. oz. of a nonionic surfactant, such as "Ortho"
X-77, per 100 gal. diluted spray. Use lower rates of Atrazne 4L and of
"Princep" SOW on coarse soil, and higher rates on fine-textured soil. Use

existing vegetation is 4-6 inches tall. This mixture will not control weeds
taller than 6 inches.

Aerial Application: In order to assure that spray will be controllable within the target area when used according to label directions, make applications at a maximum height of 10 ft. above vegetation, using low drift no%%les at a maximum pressure of 40 psi, and restrict application to periods when wind speed does nol exceed 10 mph. To assure that spray will not adversely affect adjacent sensitive non-target plants, apply Atrazine 4L by aircraft at a minimum upwind distance of 400 ft. from sensitive plants. Apply Atrazine 4L at rates recommended below before or Soon after weeds begin growth. Postemergence applications should be made when weeds are young and actively growing. Use the higher rates on heavy clay and muck soils. Atrazine 4L can be used to provide long term weed control on industrial sites, highway medians and shoulders, railroad rights-of-way, lumberyards, petroleum tank farms, and in non-crop areas on farms, such as around buildings, equipment and fuel storage areas, along fences and lanes.
