On the basis of information furnished by the registrant, the above named pesticide is hereby reregistered under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and
|
|
Rodenticide Act. Registration is in no way to be construed as an endorsement or recommendation of this product by the Agency. In order to protect
|
|
health and the environment, the Administrator, on his motion, may at any time suspend or cancel the registration of a pesticide in accordance with the
|
|
Act. The acceptance of any name in connection with the registration of a product under this Act is not to be construed as giving the registrant a right to
|
|
exclusive use of the name or to its use if it has been covered by others.
|
|
Based on your response to the Reregistration Eligibility Decision, EPA has reregistered the product
|
|
listed above. This action is taken under the authority of section 4(g)(2)(C) of the Federal Insecticide,
|
|
Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, as amended. Reregistration under this section does not eliminate
|
|
the need for continual reassessment of pesticides. EPA may require submission of data at any time
|
|
to maintain the registration of your product.
|
|
Generic data requirements that have been identified in the Metaldehyde RED as confirmatory data
|
|
for the active ingredient contained in the subject product will continue to be tracked and assessed in
|
|
the Agency's continual reassessment of pesticides.
|
|
The basic Confidential Statement of Formula (CSF) dated 11/19/09 is acceptable. All other CSF's
|
|
including Alternatives have been superseded by this CSF. This has been added to your record.
|
|
The labeling referred to above, submitted in connection with registration under the Federal
|
|
Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), as amended, is acceptable.
|
|
Submit one (1) copy of the final printed label before you release the product for shipment. Products
|
|
shipped after 12 months from the date of this Notice or the next printing of the label whichever

|
|
pesticide product (including health concerns, medical 'emergencies, treatment advice, or pesticide
|
|
incidents), call the National Pesticide Information Center at 1-800-858-7378.
|
|
Metaldehyde is a systemic toxin. There is no antidote. The following instructions are not intended
|
|
for laypeople. There is no home treatment. Exposed individuals and animals should receive
|
|
emergency care as quickly as possible.
|
|
Note to Physician: Dust inhalation is the usual route of accidental exposure; the product is rarely
|
|
ingested. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Monitor severe exposures closely: seizures,
|
|
electrolyte imbalances, acidosis, dehydration, and increased body temperature have been reported.
|
|
Note to Veterinarian: Animals typically are exposed via ingestion. Treatment is symptomatic and
|
|
supportive. If significant ingestion is suspected and the animal is asymptomatic, consider induction of
|
|
emesis or gastric lavage and administration of activated charcoal, cathartic and enema to limit absorption.
|
|
Monitor asymptomatic and symptomatic animals closely. Treat seizures, electrolyte imbalances, acidosis,
|
|
dehydration, and increased body temperature. Monitor liver function post-recovery.
|

PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS
|
|
Hazards to Humans and Domestic Animals
|
|
CAUTION: Harmful if inhaled. Harmful if swallowed. Harmful if absorbed through skin. Avoid
|
|
breathing dust. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Prolonged or frequently repeated skin
|
|
contact may cause allergic reaction in some individuals. IMPORTANT: This product can be
|
|
harmful to children and 'fatal to domestic animals when ingested. Children and dogs may be
|
|
attracted to the product. Application of this product is prohibited unless children and domestic
|
|
animals can be excluded from the treated area from the start of application until applied material
|
|
is no longer visible.
|
|
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
|
|
Some materials that are resistant to this product are barrier laminate, butyl rubber, nitrile rubber,
|
|
neoprene rubber, natural rubber, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or viton. If you want more
|
|
options, follow the instructions for category A on an EPA chemical-resistance category chart.
|
|
Mixers, loaders, applicators and other handlers must wear: Long-sleeved shirt and long
|
|
pants, shoes plus socks, and chemical-resistant gloves.
|
|
Follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning/ maintaining PPE. If no such instructions for
|
|
washables exist, use detergent and hot water. Keep and wash PPE separately from other
|
|
laundry. Discard clothing or other absorbent materials that have been heavily contaminated with
|
|
this product. Do not reuse them.
|
|
USER SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
|
|
Users should: 1) Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using
|
|
the toilet. 2) Remove clothing/PPE immediately if pesticide gets inside. Then wash thoroughly
|
|
and put on clean clothing. 3) Remove PPE immediately after handling this product. Wash the
|
|
outside of gloves before removing. As soon as possible, wash thoroughly and change into clean
|
|
clothing.
|
|
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
|
|
This pesticide is toxic to mollusks (e.g., clams, mussels, oysters, scallops). Do not apply directly
|
|
to water, to areas where surface water is present, or to intertidal areas below the mean high
|
|
water mark. Drift and runoff may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in water adjacent to treated
|
|
areas. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwaters or rinsate. This
|
|
pesticide is toxic to birds and mammals. Granules on soil surface may be hazardous to terrestrial
|
|
wildlife. Cover or collect any such materials spilled during loading.
|
|
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
|
|
It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Only
|
|
protected handlers may be in the area during application. Do not apply this product in a way that
|
|
will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift. For any requirements by your
|
|
State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation.
|
|
Restrictions:
|
|
Broadcast applications and applications of this product directed to plant parts are prohibited
|
|
except to grass grown for seed, and as specified for use in State and/or Federal invasive mollusk
|
|
eradication operations.
|
|
This product is intended solely for use on agricultural crops grown for commercial or research
|
|
purposes, and in State and/or Federal invasive mollusk eradication operations. This product may
|
|
not be applied to residential sites, (i.e., in yards, gardens, around homes and apartments) and
|
|
other sites such as the exterior areas around schools and daycare facilities, and athletic fields,
|
|
playground, parks, recreation areas, etc.
|
|
Do not apply to dry soil. Do not irrigate for 48 hours after application.

|
AGRICULTURAL USE REQUIREMENTS
|
|
Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Protection Standard,
|
|
40 CFR Part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers
|
|
on farms, forests, nurseries and greenhouses and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains
|
|
requirements for training, decontamination, notification and emergency assistance. It contains
|
|
specific instructions and exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal
|
|
protective equipment (PPE) and restricted entry interval.
|
|
Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of
|
|
12 hours. Exception: If the product is soil-injected or soil-incorporated, the Worker Protection
|
|
Standard, under certain circumstances, allows workers to enter the treated areas, without
|
|
restriction if there will be no contact with anything that has been treated.
|
|
PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is permitted under the Worker Protection
|
|
Standard and that involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil or
|
|
water is: Coveralls, shoes plus socks and chemical-resistant gloves made of any waterproof
|
|
material.
|
|
APPLICATION DIRECTIONS
|
|
Apply to the soil surface in a band treatment between plant rows. Do not apply to plant parts. Best
|
|
results are obtained if applied in the evening, after irrigation or rain. Do not irrigate for 48 hours
|
|
after application. Apply when plant damage first appears. Most plants are tolerant to this product.
|
|
On any plants known or suspect to be sensitive to plant protection chemicals, the user should
|
|
make a test application to determine the plants' sensitivity to this product before large scale
|
|
treatment is made. Should the test determine that the plants are sensitive to this product, do not
|
|
apply. Granules of this product may be applied to the following crops to control slugs and snails.
|
|
ARTICHOKES
|
|
Perennial - Apply at a rate of 9 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when
|
|
pest pressure is high. The maximum application rate is 25 pounds of this product (1.0 Ib. a.i.) per
|
|
acre per application. A maximum of 6 applications are permitted per growing season at a
|
|
minimum retreatment interval of 18 days.
|
|
Annual - Apply at a rate of 9 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. The maximum application rate
|
|
is 25 pounds of this product (1.0 Ib. a.i.) per acre per application. A maximum of 2 applications
|
|
are permitted per growing season at a minimum retreatment interval of 18 days.
|
|
For both annual and perennial Artichokes, apply in a band between rows and/or directed towards
|
|
the base of the plants by hand or with application equipment designed for banded application of
|
|
granular products.
|
|
BLUEBERRIES AND CANEBERRIES (Bingleberry, Black raspberry, Blackberry,
|
|
Boysenberry, Dewberry, Lowberry, Marionberry, Olallieberry, Red raspberry, Youngberry)
|
|
and OTHER BERRIES (Currant, Elderberry, Goos'eberry, Huckleberry, Juneberry,
|
|
Loganberry, Lingonberry, Salal)
|
|
Apply at a rate of 6.5 to 20 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest
|
|
pressure is high. The maximum application rate is 20 pounds of this product (0.8 Ib. a.i.) per acre
|
|
per application. A maximum of 3 applications are permitted per growing season at a minimum
|
|
retreatment interval of 14 days. Apply in a band, between rows and/or directed towards the base
|
|
of the plants by hand or with application equipment designed for banded application of granular
|
|
products.
|
|
CITRUS
|
|
Apply at a rate of 6.5 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest
|
|
pressure is high. The maximum application rate is 25 pounds of this product per acre (1.0 Ib. a.i.)
|
|
per acre per application. A maximum of 6 applications are permitted per growing season at a
|
|
minimum retreatment interval of 14 days. Apply in a band under tree canopy by hand or with
|
|
application equipment designed for banded application of granular products.

|
|
Apply at a rate of 5 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest pressure
|
|
is high. The maximum application rate is 25 pounds of this product (1.0 Ib. a.i.) per acre per
|
|
application. A maximum of 3 applications are permitted per growing season at a minimum
|
|
retreatment interval of 14 days. Apply in a band between rows and/or directed towards the base
|
|
of the plants by hand or with application equipment designed for banded application of granular
|
|
products.
|
|
GRASS GROWN FOR SEED
|
|
Apply at a rate of 5 to 20 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest pressure
|
|
is high. The maximum application rate is 20 pounds of this product (0.8 Ib. a.i.) per acre per
|
|
application. A maximum of 4 applications are permitted per growing season at a minimum
|
|
retreatment interval of 21 days. Applications to Turfgrass (other than Grass Grown for Seed or in
|
|
State and/or Federal invasive mollusk eradication operations) are prohibited. Apply bait by
|
|
broadcast alone or by broadcasting blended with fertilizer. Application may also be made at
|
|
planting using in-furrow (seed drill) application equipment.
|
|

|
STRAWBERRIES (Perennials Only)
|
|
Apply at a rate of 6.5 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest
|
|
pressure is high. The maximum application rate is 25 pounds of this product (1.0 !b. a.i.) per acre
|
|
per application. A maximum of 3 applications are permitted per growing season at a minimum
|
|
retreatment interval of 14 days. Apply in a band, between rows and/or directed towards the base
|
|
of the plants, by hand or with application equipment designed for banded application of granular
|
|
products.
|
|
TOMATOES
|
|
Apply at a rate of 5 to 25 pounds of this product per acre. Use the higher rate when pest pressure
|
|
is high. The maximum application rate is 25 pounds of this product (1.0 Ib. a.i.) per acre per
|
|
application. A maximum of 3 applications are permitted per growing season at a minimum
|
|
retreatment interval of 14 days. Apply in a band between rows and/or directed towards the base
|
|
of the plants by hand or with application equipment designed for banded application of granular
|
|
products.

SPECIAL USE - State and/or Federal Invasive Mollusk Eradication Operations: This
|
|
product may be used only on the following use sites in response to State and/or Federal
|
|
invasive mollusk eradication operations. Broadcast applications of this product may be made to
|
|
the following use-sites for State and/or Federal invasive mollusk eradication operations: Fallow
|
|
land, barrier strips; Uncultivated non-agricultural areas; Recreational areas; Non-food or non-
|
|
feed brush; Weed or dense vegetative areas; Railroad, pipeline, highway, power and telephone
|
|
rights-of-way and roadsides; Guardrails and fences; Lumberyards; Storage areas; Seaports;
|
|
Industrial facility sites including yards and walkways around industrial buildings, parking areas,
|
|
parks, golf courses, other public areas; and Airport and similar industrial non-crop areas.
|
|
This product may be applied for State and/or Federal invasive mollusk eradication operations at
|
|
an individual application rate of no more than 50 pounds (2.0 Ibs. a.i.) per acre and at no more
|
|
than 6 applications per year.
|
|
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL
|
|
Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal.
|
|
PESTICIDE STORAGE: This product can be harmful to children and fatal to dogs and other
|
|
domestic animals if ingested. Dogs have been known to ingest metaldehyde after opening or
|
|
tearing packaging. Store this product in original container, in a cool, secure location out of reach
|
|
of children and pets. • _ '
|
|
PESTICIDE DISPOSAL: To avoid wastes, use all of the products in this container by application
|
|
according to label directions. If wastes cannot be avoided, offer remaining product to a waste
|
|
disposal facility or pesticide disposal program (often such programs are run by State or local
|
|
governments or by industry).
|
|
CONTAINER HANDLING: Nonrefillable container. Do not reuse or refill this container.
|
|
Completely empty container into application equipment. Then offer for recycling if available, or
|
|
dispose of empty container in a sanitary landfill or by incineration.
|
|
WARRANTY - CONDITIONS OF SALE
|
|
OUR DIRECTIONS FOR USE of this product are based upon tests believed reliable. Follow
|
|
directions carefully. Timing and method of application, weather and crop conditions, mixtures
|
|
with other chemicals not specifically directed, and other influencing factors in the use of this
|
|
product are beyond the control of the Seller. To the extent consistent with applicable law, Buyer
|
|
assumes all risks of use, storage and handling of this material not in strict accordance with the
|
|
directions given herewith. To the extent consistent with applicable law, in no case shall the
|
|
Manufacturer or the Seller be liable for consequential, special or indirect damages resulting from
|
|
the use or handling of this product when such use and/or handling is not in strict accordance with
|
|
the directions given herewith. The foregoing is a condition of sale by the Seller and is accepted as
|
|
such by the Buyer.
